During my whole professional career, I was doing a lot of things, but quite often, when I was trying to do something new, I realized that most of them, had a beginning in the past. There was always some event or skill that I have done a few years earlier that teaches me something new, what allows me to get a new job or just get a promotion. Nowadays, it still works the same, but quite often It's also connected with networking and meeting a new people. The whole presentation is meant to be interactive time travel over the last about 20 years, that will show some key events and skills from the past, that influenced my growth as QA person, team and tech lead, conference speaker and a co-organizer of Polish local meetup and conferences.

Many testers see themselves as guardians of quality – but what if that very belief is what makes their job harder? They believe their role is to detect and eliminate defects before the product reaches users. Yet reality often falls short of that expectation: business decisions rarely prioritize maximum quality, and users are increasingly used to “just good enough.” Testers’ frustration grows when reported issues are ignored or postponed. You don’t have to look far – some testers spend hours reporting the tiniest website bugs, only to feel bitter when no one even reads their reports. In this talk, I’ll explore how testers can recalibrate their expectations around quality and better understand the business perspective – instead of viewing every unfixed bug as a personal failure. I’ll share ways to define quality more effectively and focus on what truly matters. Participants will learn concrete tools and techniques to support quality decision-making, including: Test Spheres – a framework for aligning on what “good enough” means for different stakeholders Risk Storming – a collaborative method for analyzing risks and making informed quality trade-offs Soap Opera Testing with personas – a storytelling approach to visualize the business impact of poor quality I'll show how testers can use these tools to stop fighting mediocrity blindly – and start communicating the value of quality in ways that actually resonate within the organization.

We’ve all heard of the customer — yet few have truly met them. The customer is a mysterious figure, often seen as the source of pressure on test engineers and developers alike. They frequently come hand-in-hand with tight deadlines and ever-changing (sometimes unmet) requirements. In this talk, we’d like to share some valuable insights on how to collaborate more effectively with the end-users of our products. We’ll explore whether reaching out to customers only during acceptance testing is truly sufficient. Additionally, we’ll discuss practical strategies to expand our test coverage in a way that minimizes the risk of faults slipping into production — all without significantly increasing our workload.
